Turn a transcript into an editable Word document

Export video text to DOCX and prepare a clean handoff for an editor without an unnecessary PDF conversion.

Start from transcript text when the goal is a Word document. Converting through PDF adds an extra opportunity to break paragraph order or lose characters.

Prepare the source

Retrieve captions or import a transcript, then verify speaker names and technical terms. Decide whether the editor needs every timestamp or only chapter markers. Keep the untouched transcript as a separate source file.

Export directly to DOCX

Select DOCX in the transcript workspace. The export contains editable text with a title and paragraphs. Open it in your word processor, apply heading styles, and add your source URL and editorial notes.

Separate corrections from rewrites

Correct transcription mistakes against the recording first. Then create the readable version in a copy. Removing false starts and rewriting a sentence are different editorial decisions; label quotations so a later reader can tell them apart.

If PDF is your only source

The PDF to Word utility extracts selectable text. It does not reproduce complex tables, images or the original design. A scanned document needs OCR before its words can be extracted. Check the output line by line around columns and footnotes.
