Work with PDFs locally: merge, split, rotate and export

Choose the right local PDF operation and understand what text extraction and image compression preserve or remove.

PDF operations have different consequences. Rearranging pages, extracting words and rebuilding pages as images are not interchangeable, even when all three produce a file ending in .pdf.

Use page operations for structure

Merge combines files in the selected order. Split extracts a range, rotate changes page orientation, and delete removes selected pages. Check a range such as 1-3, 5 before processing and retain an original copy.

Distinguish text from pictures of text

PDF to TXT and PDF to Word extract selectable text. They do not perform OCR on scans or recreate a complex page layout. If text selection fails in the source reader, extraction may need a separate OCR step.

Understand compression tradeoffs

The compression utility rebuilds pages as JPEG images. It can reduce file size but removes selectable text, links, forms and accessibility tags. If the generated file is larger, Pyntic keeps the original rather than presenting a false saving.

Handle protection deliberately

Protect PDF adds an opening password using AES-256. Unlock requires the owner password and permission to change the document. Save the password separately from the shared file. These browser tools process local documents without sending them to a conversion server.
