Read an EPUB locally and keep useful notes

Understand what a text-focused EPUB reader can show and how to preserve chapter context when taking notes.

Pyntic teamReviewed 2 min

An EPUB is a package of linked reading documents. A local text reader can help you inspect and read chapters, but it is not a replacement for every feature of a full ebook application.

Open a DRM-free file

Choose an EPUB you can access legitimately. The reader uses the package manifest and spine to follow chapter order. Encrypted or DRM-protected books are not supported.

Understand the reading view

Pyntic extracts chapter text into a plain reading view. Complex layouts, embedded media, illustrations and interactive content may not be retained. Use a dedicated ebook reader when those elements are essential.

Take traceable notes

Record the book title, chapter and a short supporting passage when appropriate. Do not rely on page numbers from another device: reflowable ebook pagination can vary with font size and screen dimensions.

Keep the original package

Exported notes or extracted text do not replace the original book. Keep the EPUB intact and separate your interpretation from quotations. The local reader does not upload the book to a conversion service.
